Create a story about a race that no longer dresses up for Halloween as monsters, but dresses up as humans.
Why would they act this way?
How far removed have they become to do this?
What belief can they be following by doing this?

Experiment with writing a story in a genre you don’t normally write in. (sf, fantasy, real world, historical, steam punk, …)
Experiment with writing a story were 2 people (of opposite sex) that work closely together, but do not fall in love.
How would this affect them?
Would this make the story boring or have more tension?
What can you do to have fun with this?
Write a story in which the real story is told as a historic perspective of some event. (real or imagined event)
Write a story about your life as if one thing had changed in your past. It can be anything good or bad, you can also write the story then decide what changed to get you to that new point.
How would changing one thing really affect someone’s life?
Would you do the change knowing that everything else good after that change would be gone?
If you could would you change your life?
Take a old cartoon and try and write an episode from that series.
How does your differ from the series?
Does yours work with the series?
What makes these works, vs. what makes yours work?
Can you mix what works in the 2 together?
Write a story about your life. It can be one day it can be a few scenes, it can be your most stressful day or it can be your most relaxed, but remember to make it interesting enough that others will want to read it.
Take an existing story and choose 1 to 5 scenes from it and rewrite the scene from another point of view. if you used first person use third, try using second person…
After you are done ask yourself the following questions:
Does this help your story?
Would you consider rewriting the whole story for new perspective?
Write a story where one of the main character is missing from the story.
Does this work?
Is the character really needed?
What does taking that character out do to your story?
